IPSec connection setup for Windows XP

Using IPSec protocol

IPSec — not as widely supported, a bit more complicated to set up but quite secure.

  1. Press the Start button and choose Connect to and then Show all connections.
  2. Click on Create a new connection option in the top left part of the Network connections window.
  3. Once you've launched the New Connection Wizard click Next on its first page and then choose the Connect to the network at my workplace from the next Network Connection Type window. Click Next.
  4. In the next Network connection window choose the Virtual Private Network connection option and click Next.
  5. In the Connection Name window type Ivacy in the Company name box. Click Next.
  6. In the VPN Server Selection window type this address ipsec.ivacy.com into the Host name or IP address box.
  7. If there are several accounts on your computer, then choose Create my connection for: My use only. Press Next. If necessary, in the window Completing the New Connection Wizard check Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop box. Press Finish.
  8. Once you've clicked Finish a new Connect Ivacy window will open. Select the Properties tab there.
  9. In the dialog window choose the Security tab and click the IPsec settings button. Type ciscokey into the box Use pre-shared key for authentication and click OK.
  10. Choose the next tab Networking and choose LPTP IPSec VPN from the Type of VPN menu. Click "OK".
  11. Type your login name and password, the ones you used during the registration on ivacy.com. Press Connect. You'll see in the right bottom corner notice Connected to Ivacy.
