Set up a VPN-connection for Windows XP

Using PPTP protocol

We recommend you first try connecting using PPTP, because this protocol is widely supported, very easy to set up and provides a fairly secure VPN connection. If you experience any issues using PPTP, you can alternatively switch to IPSec.

Step 1

Press the Start button and choose Connect to and then Show all connections.

Step 2

Click on Create a new connection option in the top left part of the Network connections window.

Step 3

Once you've launched the New Connection Wizard click Next on its first page and then choose the Connect to the network at my workplace from the next Network Connection Type window.

Click Next.

Step 4

In the next Network connection window choose the Virtual Private Network connection option and click Next.

Step 5

In the Connection Name window type Ivacy in the Company name box.

Click Next.

Step 6

If in the next Public Network window you get the options Do not dial initial connection and Automatically dial this initial connection then choose the first option.

It is possible that there will be no options to choose from (for example if you use a VPN to connect to your Internet provider).

Step 7

In the VPN Server Selection window type this address pptp.ivacy.com into the Host name or IP address box.

Click Next.

Step 8

If there are several accounts on your computer, then choose Create my connection for: My use only.

Press Next.

If necessary, in the window Completing the New Connection Wizard check Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop box. Press Finish.

Step 9

Once you've clicked Finish a new Connect Ivacy window will open. Type your login name and password, the ones you used during the registration on ivacy.com.

Press Connect.

You'll see in the right bottom corner notice Connected to Ivacy.

Congratulations! You are in our safe Ivacy network!
